Mutual Funds, Banks show rising trends in Mar’20 qtr of Britannia Industries Ltd.

Britannia Industries Ltd, one of the oldest food corporations in India, has become a household name. The public category held about 49.37% of its shares in both the quarters of December 2019 and March 2020. The promoter and promoter group held about 50.63%. On comparing both the consecutive quarters, the following differences can be observed in the public shareholding pattern :

Increasing trend : The overall Mutual Funds climbed up from 4.95% to 4.99%. The Alternate Investment Funds grew from 0.30 to 0.32%. Financial Institutions/ Banks went up from 0.25% to 0.31%. GENERAL INSURANCE CORPORATION OF INDIA increased its stakes from 1.02% to 1.07%. NBFCs registered with RBI stepped up from 0.00% to 0.02%. The Trusts held 0.93% in the former quarter which extended to 1.05% in the latter. The Clearing Members elevated from 0.04% to 0.19%. The Qualified Institutional Buyer expanded its bet from 1.04% to 1.89%. Non-Resident Indian Non Repatriation leveled up from 1.17% to 1.18%. The Bodies Corporate was at 1.03% and grew to 1.16%.

Decreasing trend : Foreign Portfolio Investors lowered their stakes from 15.79% to 14.71%. ARISAIG INDIA FUND LIMITED reduced from 1.35% to 1.09%. Insurance Companies brought the investment down from 8.06% to 7.75%. LIFE INSURANCE CORPORATION OF INDIA lessened from 6.43% to 6.06%. 1,53,310 shareholders held Individual share capital up to Rs. 2 Lacs with 13.57% of holdings in Dec’19 quarter; the no. rose to 1,73,539 in Mar’20 along with lowering in value to 13.55%. IEPF stepped down from 0.22% to 0.21%.

Balanced trend : Central Government/ State Government(s)/ President of India at 0.00%, Non-Resident Indian at 0.23%, Foreign Nationals at 0.00% and 14 shareholders with Individual share capital in excess of Rs. 2 Lacs at 1.80% had identical holdings in both the quarters.

SBI MAGNUM GLOBAL FUND held 1.09% in December 2019 quarter, while SBI ARBITRAGE OPPORTUNITIES FUND held 1.12%; altogether the SBI funds seem to be raised in the latter quarter. The no. of public shareholders were 1,62,248 in December 2019, which enlarged to 1,83,388 in March 2020. The data and pattern for promoter and promoter group shareholders remain constant in both the consecutive quarters with total 8 shareholders.
