Avenue Supermarts Ltd. is one of the leading supermarkets and organized retail businesses in India and owns the well-known brand- DMart. The public shareholdings were at 20.27% in the December 2019 quarter which hiked to 25.01% in March 2020 quarter. The trends in the public shareholding from December 2019 quarter to March 2020 quarter are as follows:
Increase in public shareholdings % – Axis Mutual Fund Trustee Limited A/C Axis Mutual Fund A/C Axis Long Term Equity Fund held 2.69% in December 2019 quarter, while in the March 2020 quarter, Axis Mutual Fund Trustee Limited held 3.14%. Alternate Investment funds increased its holdings from 0.32% to 0.37%. Foreign Portfolio Investors‘s shareholdings enlarged from 6.21% to 9.62%. The Clearing Members stepped up from 0.06% to 0.07%. Insurance Companies expanded from 0.18% to 0.49%.
Decrease in public shareholdings % – Financial Institutions/ Banks went from 0.05% to 0.02%. The no. of shareholders with Individual share capital up to Rs. 2 Lacs went up from 191376 to 248038 but the shareholding % reduced from 2.93% to 2.87%. The no. of shareholders with Individual share capital in excess of Rs. 2 Lacs decreased from 273 to 261 along with the holdings which were at 5.74% in the December 2019 quarter and at 5.33% in March 2020 quarter. Ignatius Navil Noronha minimized the holdings to 2.04% from 2.10%. HUF stepped down from 0.12% to 0.11%. Non-Resident Indian (NRI) shifted from 0.11% to 0.10%. Bodies Corporate lessened to 0.35% from 0.37%.
NBFCs, Trusts, Foreign Nationals, Foreign Portfolio Investor (Category – III) and Central Government/ State Government(s)/ President of India were at 0.00% in both the consecutive quarters. No new entries or complete exits were observed.
The Promoter and Promoter Group was holding 79.73% of the shares in the December 2019 quarter and dropped at 74.99% in the March 2020 quarter. Among the Promoters, Individuals/Hindu undivided Family held 51.26% which lowered to 47.39%. The other Promoter Group shareholders were on behalf of Bottle Palm Pvt Beneficiary Trust, and held 28.47% which lessened to 27.59%. So, the Public shareholding % grew in the March 2020 quarter while that of the Promoter and Promoter Group reduced.
